Dickman Laboratory
for Vestibular Function, Development & Regeneration

J. David Dickman, Principal Investigator

Located on Washington University's med school campus, the Dickman lab applies cellular, physiological and behavioral methods to cutting-edge research in vestibular neuroscience. How do the vestibular organs develop, and how is their development modified by the sensory environment? What are the specific contributions of each organ to spatial orientation and behavior in mature animals? What are the neural substrates for these contributions, and how do these substrates modify behavior with context to optimize performance? And how does the vestibular system recover following peripheral organ injury? Current research projects in the Dickman lab are addressing these questions and others, working towards a multi-level understanding of the vestibular system and its role in spatial behavior.
